Martha and Virginia Inspire Interns @ TeachUp! Training

Today was my first hands on experience dealing with blogging.  I had heard about it, but never used.   Now less than 24 hours later I have created my own account and writing my very own blog.   We had quite an exciting day on 09 Aug 2010.  It was filled with learning about some very exciting things, that I had no idea about or even new existed, pertaining to the internet.  WOW!!!   Wonder what will follow.

This blog is being constructed to give insight about what was taught and learned on 09 Aug 2010.    The first things reviews were the rules to abide by during employment with DOT.  The folowing subject matters were touched upon:  1.  Attendance    2.  Promptness  3.  Chewing Gum   4.  Proper Dress Code  5.  Checking Email   6.  Use of Proper English and Grammer in both written and verbal communication.

The meat of the training had all to do with being computer savuy.  At this point, the Promethian was plugged in and the adventure started.  Thru this interactive engagement I noticed how the whiteboard was used as a projection screen as well as a board to write on using a special kind of pen.  According to the internet cost about $100.00.  Instructions were given on how to setup a blog, and webmail accounts.  I have learned that being afraid and technology does not go hand in hand.  You have to get to there and get your feet wet. (play around with the features).
            Within Webmail features reviewed such as:  1.Labels   2.  Accounts 3.  Forward  4.  Labs  
5.  Tasks       6.  Signature   7.  Calendars

Within Google Documents the things reviewed how to access the items and what items were used such as spreadsheet (excel) and word processing.  We also learned about Calendars and how and what we could use them for with examples given my Marquita a returning intern, such as creating events, sharing, scheduling among other things.

Then we ventured on to who the Techinical Support guy is JBlocker.  Looked at Google Earth,Audicity, and Podcast and setting up a PodBean account on our own.

In reflecting back on the lesson taught about Podcasting, I feel there could be an infinite amount of uses for this techology within the school system.  The way I plan to incorporate the Podcast within the school I am assigned is, with the permission of the administration and my supervisor would be to let the student make live broadcasting about school events and happening around there area pertaining to learning  and post it to there websites, try to get local radio stations to play them during school hours and have the broadcast piped into the schools cafeteria during lunch and breakfast hours for the students enjoyment.
